One of the best ways for young people to learn and grow is to help others. Claro (an organization that helps support students with special needs at learning centres designed for their success) encourages its students to help others, creating a full circle of generosity.
Claro students volunteer at many organizations around the Kelowna community. Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Downtown Youth Centre has been a regular spot for the eager volunteers. Claro students cook meals for at-risk youth at the Centre. They also sort the Clothing Closet which provides youth with new and gently used clothing.
Working in the Clothing Closet teaches Claro students about privilege and the importance of supporting others in the community. With cold months on the horizon, warmer clothing is needed for youth at the Centre. Claro students decided to help by donating new socks, toques, and mittens at their annual PJ and Pancake Breakfast. Their gifts were hung on a tree to celebrate their act of generosity.
We are thankful to be a part of Claro’s 360 generosity. Indeed, we share the same philosophy! We’ll see you at the Downtown Youth Centre soon, Claro students!
Our relationship with Claro has existed for five years now! We started working with Claro Students at our Raising the Grade program in Rutland. To learn more about Claro’s work, visit: http://www.clarolife.com/
