WestJet Cares for Kids

Published March 01, 2017 18:25

WestJet Cares for Kids has been helping Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs a lot over the past few years. Today we are reminiscing on the amazing work we have been able to do because of WestJet’s generosity.

This past summer, WestJet Cares For Kids gave the gift of flight to a lucky auction winner at our Capri Golf Tournament. Our Capri tournament is an event that many community members look forward to every year! It's a chance for people to have fun in the sun while giving back to kids, youth, and families in the Central Okanagan.

This past September, we changed the way we ran our online auction by allowing people to bid on specific items like snacks, art supplies, and toys. People jumped at the chance to fund the items our Staff and Club members use to have fun every day!

Our next memory is our 2016 Great Futures Campaign, where WestJet offered the gift of flight to all campaign participants. Donors came together to raise $23 338 for kids throughout the valley. We like to open as many doors as possible for kids in the Okanagan and we're always wondering what kind of unique great futures our kids will pursue when they leave our programs. To expose kids to as many opportunities as possible, we like to create an experiential learning environment.

In addition to the gift of flight for the Great Futures Campaign, WestJet staff came out to the annual Martin Avenue Chili Dinner event! Nine different chili flavours were created and served to hungry kids and their families.

During the Christmas Break program in Penticton, kids went up to Apex Mountain Resort for a day of tubing and fun! WestJet supplied two great volunteers who provided and cooked a lunch of fire roasted hotdogs along with hot chocolate and marshmallows. After lunch and tubing was finished kids gathered inside where they received a gift from WestJet.

WestJet Cares for Kids has helped in many more ways up and down the valley. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication to kids, youth, and families and we look forward to creating new memories with them.
