Volunteer Spotlight: GAP Inc., WestJet, and Kal Tire

Published March 16, 2017 20:06

Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs has been lucky to have dedicated volunteers from partner organizations. We want to feature the variety of ways in which these volunteers help!

GAP and Old Navy Kelowna have been volunteering with Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs for two years. They have volunteered at events like The Great Bacon Chase and Pink Shirt Day. Volunteers have been enthusiastic and professional when interacting with event guests on our behalf. Their hospitality has left guests with a positive impression of our organization.

WestJet employees have also been active volunteers at Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs for several years. They volunteer at the annual Martin Avenue Chili Dinner event. In 2016, they cooked nine different chili flavours for kids and their families to enjoy.

During the Christmas Break program in Penticton, kids went up to Apex Mountain Resort for a day of tubing and fun! WestJet supplied two volunteers who provided and cooked a lunch of fire roasted hotdogs along with hot chocolate and marshmallows. After lunch and tubing was finished kids gathered inside where they received a gift from the WestJet volunteers.

Additionally, WestJet employees volunteer at the annual Martin Avenue summer family picnic. They help with set-up, take-down, and the barbecue dinner.

Lastly, Kal Tire employees have volunteered at Race For Kids for five years and contributed to our Adopt A Family Hamper program for even longer. The families who have been aided by Kal Tire’s generosity are always extremely grateful to have food and gifts during the holiday season. We can always rely on Kal Tire to help those in need when the holiday season comes around.

While these organizations are diverse in the services they provide, they are united by a desire to help kids, youth, and families in the Okanagan. Their active participation in our organization has been touching and inspiring to witness over the years. We look forward to their next volunteer visit!
