On December 8th, 2016 staff of Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Martin Avenue opened the gym doors to let in 148 guests to the Family Chili Dinner and Gingerbread House Decorating Night. Staff had spent the day concocting nine different flavours of chili for families to enjoy. The chilis were served by WestJet volunteers, who sponsored the event.
Each family in attendance received a gingerbread house kit so everyone could enjoy a hands-on activity after dinner. “The chili was great. My son was very excited to make the gingerbread house and he especially liked the candy,” said one parent. Kids were happy to have creations to take home with them.
Unlike previous Chili Dinners, this year’s featured a silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will go towards the building of a bouldering wall at the Martin Club. A bouldering wall will provide kids with an opportunity to learn about rock climbing and coordination.
Staff members were happy to cook dinner and work with WestJet for the evening. The Chili Dinner brought together kids who have attended programs for many years. “It was so great to see the kids I worked with when they were younger,” said one staff member.
We are thankful to WestJet for helping us run this fun event for families of the Martin Club! We also appreciate all they do for our organization as a whole.
