I joined the Boys and Girls Clubs team in the summer of 2012 as a Youth Outreach Coordinator. My position was to organize, implement and facilitate a day camp, targeted towards disadvantaged middle-school children, with the hopes of providing them with a cost-free program in which to participate during the summer months. I was with the club for two summers and this experience has helped me achieve my career goals in a number of ways.
After completing my B.A. at UBC Okanagan, I began the Secondary Teacher Education Program, with a focus in English and Social Studies. Not only did my experience at the Penticton Boys and Girls Club help me get accepted into that program, but it also helped me confirm that this was the right career path for me.
I completed my practicum at Penticton Secondary School and finished my teaching degree in June of 2016. I joined the TTOC list in School District #67 (Okanagan Skaha - Summerland/Penticton), and I have just recently accepted a medical leave position for this fall at Princess Margaret Secondary School, teaching Law 12, Social Studies 11 and Planning 10.
I honestly believe that if I did not have the experiences I did with the Boys and Girls Club that I would not have had the successes that I have seen recently. I would not be the confident, outgoing and child-oriented individual that I am today. Thank you to the Penticton Boys and Girls Club for providing me with the experience, knowledge and insight that has allowed me to achieve my goals!
