Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs is proud to be sharing space with Mamas For Mamas, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping mothers locally and across Canada. For some time, OBGC Program Coordinator Shasta Scott has been lending the Mamas space in our Martin Avenue Club for events. Most recently, the Mamas hosted a donation event that filled our gym. The Mamas sorted through thousands of new and gently used items to give to mothers in the community.
These donation events will now run on a monthly basis. This will make it easier for mothers to access childcare items for their families. We are honoured and excited to contribute our space to this initiative.
Mamas For Mamas was formed in 2014, running only on the time of volunteers. Now, the organization has 7500 members across the valley. The organization has two tiers of membership. The first level is an online community of mothers. Here, mothers of all backgrounds can interact and share advice and/or goods. The second level is directly supporting low income families with poverty relief programs.
Mothers play an important role in their children’s lives. Often, the burden of childrearing can fall to them solely. Supporting mothers in turn supports kids and entire families. The resources Mamas For Mamas provides can truly make a difference in many lives.
We are happy to officially welcome Mamas For Mamas to Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Martin Avenue!
