Did you know that we have a Mini Chef program in Lake Country? Did you know that Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and some generous partners have created a whole website devoted to kid-friendly recipes and cooking lessons? Well, now you do!
Lake Country's Mini Chef program runs every Tuesday for an hour and a half for kids ages 6-12. Kids are taught culinary skills and simple, healthy recipes. Some recent recipes include pasta skillet with chicken sausage, cheese croissants, tacos, and veggie quesadillas. Staff design recipes to be clear and easy to follow so that the kids can go through the entire cooking process themselves. Of course, staff are always on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly.
In addition to lessons at the Mini Chef program, parents (from across the valley) can sign up their children for Kid Food Nation. With generous support from Public Health Agency of Canada, Kid Food Nation is a food literacy program for children aged 7 to 12 that teaches the skills necessary to plan, prepare, and cook healthy food. The website is free to use and if parents sign up, kids can earn points by playing skill-building games. Points can be redeemed for culinary-themed prizes like aprons and cooking gear!
The Kid Food Nation website is new and will be updated regularly. Media partners like YTV, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and TeleToon will be featuring Kid Food Nation programming that will highlight the initiative and kid participants. We encourage you to visit the website and start your child's culinary journey today. If you would like to sign up your child for the Lake Country Mini Chef program, call 250-766-5277.
We hope you have a grate time learning about cooking! Don't boil over if your child struggles at first. Just fry, fry again!
