Holiday Cheer Spreads Throughout Kelowna

Published January 04, 2017 18:00

Kendra McFarland loves to sing. In fact, she thinks singing might be contagious. This past holiday season, Kendra put her hypothesis to the test by organizing Caroling for a Cause.

Caroling for a Cause was a three-week caroling initiative that spread Christmas cheer and raised money for Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs. “Children give Christmas that special sparkle. One of the reasons why I chose the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs was to encourage kids to join us in bringing joy to this sometimes stressful time of year,” said Kendra. She was happy to give back to the community through her initiative.

Thanks to Kendra’s social media skills and caring Facebook friends, word of Caroling for a Cause spread quickly. Generous local Carly Wishart saw Caroling for a Cause on Castanet and helped Kendra contact more local news organizations. Throughout the weeks of caroling, approximately 35 carolers came out. Kendra only knew a handful of those carolers personally.

Kendra was overwhelmed by the community’s response to her caroling efforts. “I just wanted to spread some joy during the holiday season. The togetherness of amazing people singing, smiling, and being silly filled all of our hearts and souls. It truly was an awesome feeling!” KittyPlays, a famous Kelowna Youtuber, captured some of the holiday cheer in one of her holiday vlogs.

Thank you, Kendra, for organizing Caroling for a Cause and thank you to everyone who spread holiday cheer with her. Choices Markets and The Garage Sale Luxury Auction House also helped immensely with substantial donations. The $1558 raised by the carolers will help us run engaging programs and essential services for kids, youth, and families across the valley.
