Hockey Tournament Celebrates Dedicated Staff Member

On April 29, 2017, Club Members from Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Martin Avenue joined Club Members at the Rutland Club for the 23rd Annual Ken Olson Floor Hockey Tournament. The tournament is named after Ken Olson, a former OBGC staff member who loved to engage youth in hockey. Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Rutland felt a hockey tournament was a fitting way to honour Ken, who has since passed away.

P1110800The low-cost tournament saw four teams face off in the OBGC Rutland gymnasium. Lunch and beverages were provided by Coca Cola, McDonald’s Kelowna, Memphis Blues, Nature’s Fare, and Starbucks. Club Members and parents cheered each other on and enjoyed making new friends on and off the gym floor.

Team Martin Avenue took the championship title at the end of the day, but all teams had a fun time. Kids were already talking about next year’s tournament as they left the Rutland Club.

We want to thank all of the sponsors who made the 23rd Ken Olson Floor Hockey Tournament a success. Tournaments require many resources and much manpower, which can make them expensive for participants and for the hosting organization. We would not be able to run this annual tournament without support from community organizations.
