On February 28th, 2017, Club Members from the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Martin Avenue After School Program went on an adventure up Knox Mountain. The brief warm spell during that week made for perfect hiking weather (we’re sad it didn’t last longer).
Program Coordinators jumped at the chance to take Club Members outside to enjoy nature. Staff and Club Members surprised themselves by climbing all the way to the top lookout point on the mountain- a strenuous hike regardless of fitness level! The group marveled at the stunning view of Kelowna that rewards hikers who make it to the top of the mountain. “We were telling them a lot about being in nature and showed them a lot of landmarks of Kelowna from the top of the mountain. The kids seemed really interested to know about it,” said one staff member.
Outdoor physical activities are an important part of Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs programming. We look forward to sharing all of the Okanagan adventures our Club Members will go on this spring and summer!
