Cardiac Sciences Division Staff Have Generous Hearts

Published December 20, 2016 22:05

Three years ago, the Kelowna General Hospital’s Cardiac Sciences Division decided that they wanted to give back to families in need during the holidays. Inspired by the Heart Institute in Ottawa, KGH Cardiac Sciences staff decided to collect gifts for families struggling financially. One of the Cardiac Sciences admin staff had positive experiences with Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs and recommended us as the recipient of gift donations.

“We wanted to make sure that family’s needs were verified and Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs could provide that assurance to us,” said Cardiovascular Perfusionist Richard Saczkowski. Confident in the cause they were giving to, the Cardiac Sciences staff rallied together and amassed a mountain of presents for our families. We in turn organized the presents for distribution to our Adopt A Family hamper recipients.

The amount of presents collected by the Cardiac Sciences Division has grown bigger over the years. This year, the Cardiac Sciences Division collected over $1000 in presents. There are so many presents that the Cardiac Staff will be donating presents to more charities in the community.

“This hamper means we can give our daughter the first Christmas she deserves after fighting so hard to make it,” said one hamper recipient. There are many unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances that lead families to hamper programs. Hampers give stressed parents the chance to celebrate the holidays without worrying about the cost. For kids, hampers provide important needs like clothing and they also lend a sense of normalcy to the holidays.

We thank all of the staff at the KGH Cardiac Sciences Division for their consistent generosity. Donors like you allow us to aid every struggling family that comes to us for help.

Surgical Images (35)The KGH Cardiac Sciences Division performed its first open heart operation in December of 2012. The Division has over 100 employees who help provide a full slate of cardiac services to Okanagan residents. While the Cardiac Sciences Division is relatively new to the Okanagan region, the employees are not new to the work they do. The experienced Cardiac Sciences Division employees have given KGH a national reputation for excellent Cardiac service.
