Banner Recreation & Marine Supports Dragon Boating Fun

Club Members at Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Martin Avenue were surprised with a donation of life jackets for their summer Dragon Boating program on July 13th. Banner Recreation & Marine donated 20 life jackets to the kids so they could be safe on the water.

“We are very proud to be able to donate these lifejackets to the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs today. We think swimming is a life skill that everyone should have. Dragon Boating is another great way to enjoy the water and explore the many lakes in the Okanagan,” said Jodi Green of Banner Recreation & Marine. “We live and operate our business in the Okanagan so it is important for us to make sure that everyone can enjoy the water. We are happy that these lifejackets will help the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club provide opportunities for their Club Members to safely enjoy the water for years to come.”

Club Members from Martin Avenue will be dragon boating on Lake Okanagan, accompanied by four staff members and a life guard. Dragon boating is a full-body workout that builds upper body, core, and lower body muscles. The activity will also teach Club Members about team work and water safety.

“Life jackets are critical for people to be safe on the water. Children may not have the same swimming skills so life jackets ensure everyone is safe. They also give parents and caregivers some peace of mind,” said Jodi. “Dragon boating is a great water sport because people have to work together to paddle and look out for one another.”

Our Club Members are excited to safely enjoy the water on their dragon boats for the rest of the summer and our Club Staff are grateful to have quality gear for the program. Thank you, Banner Recreation & Marine, for giving Club Members the opportunity to build new skills and explore nature.
